The Royal Berkshire Regiment Great War Project
My interest in the Royal Berkshire Regiment arose from an extra-mural
course run at Reading University in 1992. As a result we formed the Kitchener Battalions
Project whose initial objective was to gather documentation about the three
Kitchener Battalions of the Royal Berks which fought on the western front. We
have, as a consequence, amassed a huge amount of information about the
regiment, not just in the First World War, but rather, throughout its history.
I have a database with some 120,000 entries of men who served with the regiment
or who came from Berkshire and served in WW1.
To date the
project has published four books in the Kitchener Battalions series in
conjunction with Reading University and three
further books in conjunction with the Museum. Also I am a Trustee of the
Regimental Museum in Salisbury and you might like to visit their website.
It is not
possible to make all the information that we have available here, but we are
always happy to try to answer any questions you may have. You may send an
e-mail to john.chapman@purley.eu or write to us care of the regimental museum . The
links below will take you to the information available.
