THE ROYAL
This section of the website covers the Royal
Berkshire Regiment in the First World War.
This
section gives a brief overview of the war, indicating the key engagements of
the several Royal Berkshire Battalions which were engaged.
The Royal
Berkshire Regiment had 16 battalions during the war. This section gives a brief summary of the war experiences
of each of these.
I have been
compiling a series of articles under the general title of The Biscuit Boys, This section takes the war in a number of phases
and describes in detail whet each battalion was doing. The basis of the
material are the war diaries filled out with personal letters and reports plus
information published in contemporary newspapers
I have
built up a database which includes details of around 100,000 men who served
with the Royal Berkshire or its predecessor regiments. Around 90,000 of these
served in the war and this section provides mini-biographies of a few of them.
This
section deals with men who were taken prisoner, culled from official
interrogations after they were released or from reports in contemporary
newspapers.
This
section identifies the several cemeteries where men were buried or memorials
where they are commemorated.
How the
various medical facilities coped during the war
This
section describes the support mechanisms in place for the troops and links to
the Home Front
This
section lists some of the principal books which have been used as sources for
the war and the Royal Berkshire’s involvement.
